Can you guys tell me some basic German words that I should know and what they mean. I want to learn as much as I can about speaking German so I don't seem so wierd on here. :oops: Plus I'd like to visit Germany some day and it would just be nice to know the language.

@kev: try it with a program like babylon, i have it and i use it when i don´t know what an english word means in german. you can find it at www.babylon.com
but you need internet connection when you want to use it, even when you have downladed and installed it.

Dragon Slayer Helped me translate my sig into German. I'm still very new at it. I have only been learning for about 5-6 weeks so I don't know alot yet unfortunately. If anyone wants to know some American slang then I could teach you. I've confused some people already with a few things I've said. :?

You have a point. because it doesn't know the meaning of every word. Like you might use one word with 2 meanings but it only gives you 1 meaning. Plus it doesn't translate into very clear english.

And to answer your question you use for in that sentence, and yes I can see the sz symbol.I wish my computer did that, I don't think it even has a button for umlauts. :? You say you've been learning English for six years. I hope that I'm that good at German in six years. Pluss I wanna learn some Japanease to.

Yay Austrian! And I hope I learn fast to. It's hard to memorize stuff fast. I better write all these words down. The only large amount of words I learned was the numbers 1-999,999.

richtig ist es so:

become - werden
get - bekommen

ja nicht verwchseln, meine englisch lehrerin bei der ich angefangen hab englisch zu lernen hat uns drauf hingewiesen, mehrmals sogar.

außerdem muss man unterscheiden ziwschen verb und nomen, zB:

beat - der Schlag
to beat - schlagen

wenn man versteht was ich meine

i think it is more important to learn grammar stuff because when you know how to work with the words it will be easier to write and speak, even if you still need a dictionary for the vocabulary.

I'm learning some in school. I justed wanted to know a few more words so I could learn more faster. We don't learn enough each week I think.

I agree. My grammer is awful. Maybe even worse than my knowledge of what words mean what. But I want to take it one step at a time.
